IND vs ENG Test IV

England started the fourth Test match productively as they put 353 runs on the board in the first innings, with former English captain Joe Root scoring an unbeaten century. They have also had an exceptional start with the ball as the Indian top order sparked their spin attack. Shoaib Bashir and Tom Hartley picked up quick wickets, restricting any Indian top-order batsman, barring opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, to score more than 50 runs.

However, the players could not find an answer to the maturity of Dhruv Gurriel, who remained rooted in the field and built a 76-run stand with No. 9 batsman Kuldeep Yadav. Gurriel scored 90 runs with six fours and four sixes, taking India from 171/6 to 307 runs, reducing the deficit to just 46 runs by the end of the innings on the third day.

The Indian spinners then took the baton into their hands, and one by one the English batsmen fell prey to their charm, being bowled out for a score of just 145 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav led the Indian bowling attack, taking nine wickets. Ashwin scored figures of 5/51, making his 35th Test, while Kuldeep Yadav came away with four wickets while conceding just 22 runs.

Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal started India's run chase with a power-packed 84-run partnership, providing a stable start for the rest of the batsmen to build on. However, once both openers departed, the Indian batting order collapsed, and they lost back-to-back wickets.

However, Gurriel and Shubman Gill came to India's rescue and put up a 72-run stand between them, once again providing the stability the team desperately needed. Gill also chipped in with his half-century in the process, pushing India's chase towards the end, with Gurriel equally complementing his efforts.

England started the series with a 28-run victory over India in Hyderabad in the first Test but never had the chance to get back into the series as India went on to win the next three Tests.

Registering a massive 106-run victory over England in Vishakhapatnam, India leveled the series 1-1. Team India then extended their lead to 2-1 with a 434-run win in Rajkot, and clinched the series with a five-wicket win in Ranchi.
