John Lewis is to launch an end-to-end home improvements service – a service which it says will be a unique offering within what it calls the fragmented home improvements industry.
The service will be provided
by merging Home Solutions, a John Lewis business which links up householders
with trusted tradespeople, with Opun a project management business. John Lewis
acquired Opun last year but it has been operated as a standalone business until
John Lewis & Partners Partner and Director, Services, Sean Allam said: “Last year’s acquisition of Opun demonstrated our ambition in the home services market and today’s announcement marks a critical next step as we look to strengthen and grow our services business.
“Bringing the teams
together is an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively, share knowledge
and collectively learn in the fast-paced home improvement market and create
opportunities for growth.”
There is a growing trend in the wider retail industry to offer not just products but services. This appears to be John Lewis’s unique take on that. It certainly holds potential to shake up the home improvements sector in the higher-end part of the market in which John Lewis operates.
