A perfectly good function of Spotify was the car mode, the Spotify app made you drive a car and then showed a simpler display instead of the usual interface. Now the functionality appears to have been removed on Android, still exists on iOS, and appears to have been intentional. Here’s what a Spotify representative says on his forum.
We can confirm that we will discontinue the Car View feature. However, that doesn’t mean we don’t want to improve how our users listen to Spotify while driving. On the contrary, we are actively exploring a variety of new ways to deliver the best in-car listening experience. Think of car show retirement as something that has to happen in an effort to make way for new innovations to come on the right track.
Please bear with us for the time being. As we work behind the scenes to improve the experience, one alternative would be hands-free listening via Google Assistant. This feature also works with Google Maps so you can navigate while listening to Spotify. To do this, you can link your accounts and say “Hey Google, play Spotify”.
As you know Spotify has a device they are testing called Car Thing, but this feature may not have been implemented to sell more of them. Car-related things aren’t even available for purchase here in Sweden, for example.
Like I said, the functionality remains on iOS, at least for now.
