Many people think that you can increase battery life by manually closing apps when you are not actively using them, but the truth is that it can have the opposite effect and drain more battery power. In fact, it’s one of Apple’s most famous executives, Craig Federighi, who has stated that you don’t need to close apps manually. The explanation for this is that Ios handles multitasking so that unused and background apps don’t drain the battery, but instead lie dormant until the next time you start the app in question. So, if you manually exit an app, it can drain more battery power because the app has to restart after that and it can’t come back from sleep so you can continue from where you last exited.
The times when manually closing apps has a purpose is when an app has stopped and is not working, and then the only way to get it to work might be to close it first.
