The meeting comes within the framework of regional defense cooperation for the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), the government confirmed on Tuesday.

The following countries are participating in defense cooperation and will attend the summit:

Russian offensive warfare and defense of the Baltic Sea

During the meeting, the leaders will discuss Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, as well as how the countries can together continue to strengthen their cooperation with NATO and develop their ability to deal with hybrid threats, the government wrote.

Moreover, the meeting is described as an important opportunity for countries to discuss common challenges, strengthen relations with each other and create good conditions for joint efforts.

The meeting will be held in Gotland because the Swedish island plays a central military strategic role in defending the Baltic Sea.

facts Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF)

– JEF is a defense cooperation between ten countries led by Great Britain. The alliance includes Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Great Britain, and is primarily dedicated to operations in the Baltic Sea, North Atlantic and Arctic regions. The Fund can act quickly either alone or in cooperation with NATO or the United Nations.

The International Coalition Fund was established in 2012, partly due to Britain’s experiences in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2018, the Japanese power utility achieved what is called full operating capacity. Sweden has been part of the JEF since 2017.

– JEF is a form of international rapid response force that can operate in special occasions such as emerging security threats, crises or wars.

The strength of the GEF is that it can be quickly deployed and deployed in operations with tight time constraints. The current security situation in the world means that the Japanese Defense Force is necessary to contribute to the security of the Arctic, North Atlantic Ocean and the Baltic Sea together with the defense forces of other countries.
