Beijing on Monday released this year’s edition of the unified official map of China. On the map, Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin are drawn as Chinese, which angers India. In Delhi they are seen as Indians.
Putting something on the map means nothing. Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar told the Indian TV channel that these areas are very much Indian NDTV.
It stated that his ministry had therefore sent “a sharp formal protest through diplomatic channels”. Times of India.
There is no official limit
The two countries have been in conflict for decades over several areas, including Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin with Sikkim state being the main timber issues.
As for the state of Arunachal Pradesh – which China calls Southern Tibet – there is no official border, but India controls the area east of Bhutan. Guidance is also believed to take place in Aksai Chin, the region where India, China and Pakistan meet.
– We’ve been very clear about our regions. Jaishankar says making absurd claims does not make someone else’s land his own.
And even Taiwan
Last week, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi were said to have held “sincere and in-depth” talks to ease tensions along the two countries’ disputed Himalayan border.
The tense situation in the region worsened in 2020 when 20 Indian soldiers and at least four Chinese soldiers were killed in the unrest. Since then, tens of thousands of soldiers have been deployed to the border areas.
In addition to the Indian regions, autonomous Taiwan and the disputed South China Sea have been included on the new map as Chinese territories.
