inMcKellen, the actor known for playing Magneto in the X-Men saga and Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit series, has been vaccinated against the coronavirus. The 81-year-old British translator shared his experiences with pictures of himself receiving the injection on social media.
“It’s a special day. Anyone who has lived like me because they’ve been vaccinated before,” McKellen begins. “You’re not just carrying it for yourself, but for the people close to you. You’re doing your bit for the community. Of course it doesn’t hurt… It’s easy to reach out to the NHS team and thank them for how hard they’ve worked, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone, I feel very lucky to have had the vaccine,” he adds.

ITV media were given the opportunity to record the moment the actor received the vaccine and got some additional statements. “The next time I come, well, in six days, I’m going to give you a big hug. Is that allowed? I don’t know,” he says. He also confirmed that he felt “euphoric” after receiving the jab.
Coronavirus vaccinations began in the UK on December 8. The first to get them were older people and health professionals. McKellen, 81, is in the first risk group.
