After being suspended from social media, but nonetheless a powerful influence on Republicans, former US President Donald Trump returned to the political scene on Saturday night.
“Our country is being destroyed right before our eyes,” he said in a speech in North Carolina, referring to the 2024 presidential election, without giving any information.
“Our boss!”
So it was submitted Donald Trump by North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Michael Whatley when he took to the stage in Greenville, an hour later than scheduled Sunday evening, Sweden time.
It was Donald Trump’s first political appearance outside his new state of Florida since he left the White House in January, and 1,250 guests to the Republican convention welcomed the former president to several minutes of applause.
The 90-minute speech was similar to his campaign speech during last year’s election campaign. He has consistently praised his political achievements — from building the wall against Mexico and tax cuts to developing a vaccine against COVID-19 — while attacking incumbent President Joe Biden, who has repeatedly described his policies as socialism.
“When we gather here tonight, our country is crumbling before our very eyes,” he said.
He also continued to repeat his allegations that last year’s elections were rigged, but without providing any evidence for that.
“It was the most corrupt election in our country’s history,” he said, comparing it to elections in less developed democracies.
“The election will be remembered as the worst atrocity of the century. We cannot allow this to happen again.”
All Americans Courts and states that have reviewed election results have rejected allegations of vote tampering and ruled that Biden’s electoral victory was valid.
Trump promised that the party would return to next year’s midterm elections, when new members of both houses of Congress would be elected: the House and the Senate.
And he hinted again at the 2024 presidential election – without really saying anything.
“We will win important Senate elections in North Carolina, and we will lay the foundation for Republicans to support the prominent state of North Carolina again, in a year I look forward to most — 2024,” he said to the crowd cheers.
The 74-year-old billionaire has publicly brought up the idea of running for president in the upcoming elections and every word he says is weighed in the balance.
Trump gave his speech The day after Facebook announced that it would be suspended from the platform until at least January 2023. The former president was quick to criticize Facebook’s decision, and CEO Mark Zuckerberg also got the boot in the speech.
“They might let me come back in two years, but I’m not interested in that,” Trump said vaguely.
Internet giants such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube shut down Trump from their platforms shortly after his supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6 this year.
After the storming of Congress, only a few high-ranking Republicans broke with the former president, who, despite the fact that it has been almost five months since he left the White House, has not officially declared his defeat in the 2020 presidential election.
