Hogia delivers traffic information to Stockholm city buses

Hogia will deliver an information system to Keolis, one of Stockholm’s largest bus operators. The system will provide traffic management, planners and travelers with real-time traffic information. The agreement includes 350 buses transporting half a million passengers daily. The system will help bus drivers avoid disruptions and passengers will have the opportunity to plan their trips in a better way.

In Slussen, a bus arrives every 30 seconds. In rush hour it rises to 200 arrivals and departures per hour. We chose the Hogia system because the traffic density prevailing in Stockholm places high demands on the processing of traffic information. The system should be able to help us form an accurate picture of the current traffic situation in all situations and act proactively to avoid traffic disruptions, says Karl Orton, Keolis’ director of business development.

The heart of Hogia’s information system is the PubTrans platform, which was developed to be able to handle large amounts of public transport data, which is imported from various sources. The data is evaluated and delivered, for example in the form of time tables and information on deviations.

On every bus, there is IT equipment installed that can measure and present the second stop, count passengers, manage forecasts, and change the driving lane. Traffic management obtains an overview of the traffic situation and can provide drivers with correct driving instructions on the on-screen map display. Data is transferred between bus management and traffic in real time. Passengers can see replacement, delay and delivery options on the screens on the buses.

– While developing this system, we worked closely with Keolis for a year. One of the prerequisites for us now was to be able to offer a system that meets the high demands that the Stockholm Traffic Department places on traffic operators, says Helena Svedlund, Business Area Manager for Transport at Hogia.
