Prince Harry returns to the UK on September 30 to attend a charity event in London. After the royal family congratulated Harry on his 40th birthday, there is now speculation about whether the prince will meet his father, King Charles, during the visit.
The king will always be open to reconciliation with his son, says legal expert Rebecca English, despite the progress the prince and Meghan have made since leaving the royal family.
– Charles is angry and hurt, but Harry is his son when it comes down to it, English says.
“It was really crossing the line.”
However, she said the king was “really disappointed” by Harry's actions after he congratulated Charles on his 75th birthday last November.
– Not only did Harry call the King to congratulate him, but his children also filmed a short video of themselves singing to their grandfather, a clip they rarely see. But within hours, the royal couple leaked it to the media, which was already a step too far for the royal family, English says.
She says this is because there is very little in the lives of royals that is “really private”.
– So, private conversations, especially private phone calls, are just that: private conversations, says English.
