After all, this AI element is in vogue again after ChatGPT exploded online. Google has now presented its latest research from MusicLM, a system that creates music of all genres with text descriptions. It’s not the first AI music generation system. Projects like Google’s AudioML and OpenAI’s Jukebox have also tried to address this topic. MusicLM’s model and large training database (280,000 hours of music) help produce music from just a few lines of text. Not only can the system combine genres and instruments, but it can also write paths with abstract concepts that are usually difficult for computers to understand.
Examples provided are these lines of text:
Electronic song played in a video game (0:00-0:15)
Meditation song played by the river (0:15-0:30)
Fire (0:30-0:45)
Fireworks (0:45-0:60)
You can listen to the result of these instructions here.
However, Google admits that MusicLM has its limitations as some of the compositions sound weird and any vocals are often not entirely clear.
Whether or not all this AI madness will be the end of humanity remains to be seen, but until then you can entertain yourself and play with these tools. Unfortunately, Google has not yet opened the MusicLM app to the public, but one can only hope that it will soon.
