German doctors want the country to introduce naps

The German trade union BVÖGD, which represents healthcare workers in Germany, is suggesting that the country should reconsider its working habits during heatwaves, according to reports. AP.

Confederation President Johannes Nessen believes that Germany should follow the example of its southern European neighbors and implement the siesta during the working day during warmer periods.

The German Minister of Health is positive.

Rest to avoid the heat

Siesta means resting in the middle of the day and is a common phenomenon in countries with warmer climates. This means that you take a break from your work during the time of day when the temperature is at its highest.

In Germany, unlike Spain and Italy, it is not a tradition to take a nap.

Summer heat wave

Although Germany has managed to avoid the heatwave currently gripping southern Europe, temperatures of 35 degrees were measured in Bavaria, among other places, on Saturday.

We should adopt the way southern Europe does when it’s hot. Waking up early, working productively in the morning and napping at lunchtime is a concept we should embrace during the summer months, Nessen told RND newspaper group, reports ABC.

It also highlights that high temperatures lead to people not working efficiently and lack of sleep leading to concentration problems.

makes sense

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach tweeted, “Napping in the heat is certainly not a bad suggestion” but also indicated that the government had no intention of getting involved at this time.

Employers and employees should negotiate it themselves. It sure makes medical sense for many professions.” AP.
