General Dental Care Area in Västernorrland – From Shells to 3D

General Dental Care Area in Västernorrland – From Shells to 3D

A lot has changed in dental care over the years, and during the anniversary week in Sundsvall, the latest technologies are on display in a specialist dental clinic.

Time travel in dentistry. Folktandvården and Friskhuset will introduce this to students during the Jubilee Week at the beginning of September in Sundsvall, when Sundsvall turns 400 years old.

Friskhuset invited primary school students from grades 3 to 9 to the specialist dental clinic on Norrmalmsgatan in Sundsvall. There, they will learn how dental care worked in the past – and experience the latest technology used today, in state-of-the-art facilities. The students will learn about the different dental professions and experience what it’s like to work in dental care.

Friskhuset arranges

The activities take place at Folktandvården Centrum, where the specialist clinic is also located. Friskhuset, the outpatient dental practice of public health, is behind this arrangement in cooperation with Sundsvall Municipality.

The purpose of our participation is several. Of course, we want to share with you the celebration of Sundsvall's 400th anniversary. There is a strong history of dental care that we also educate children and young people about, says Linn Friskstein, project manager of Friskhuset and continues:

How did it feel to be a patient in the past compared to what it means to be a patient today? After all, Folktandvården has contributed to Sundsvall’s history for more than 80 years, says Linne Friskstein, project manager at Friskhuset.

Historical flashback

Dental nurses and dental hygienists from Friskhuset will take part in the activities and will staff the stations in the specialist clinic. There will also be a slide show with photos from the past in Folktandvården in Sundsvall.

“I think it is important to understand the history of our present, for example that children had dentures in the past and the first dental prostheses were veneers. Today, we use the latest technology to create composite prostheses with a computer-controlled 3D printer,” concludes Leanne Freckstein.
