Apple’s work to develop the charging case for Airpods continues, and now a new patent may reveal what the company’s upcoming plans for future versions could be. In September 2022, Apple applied for the just-published patent. It is about a case with an integrated touch screen that gives the user the opportunity, for example, to control which devices the Airpods have to connect to and interact with the applications that connect to the device, for example for the various streaming services. The patent states, among other things, that “the usability of the headphone case and user control over a user’s wireless headphones can be improved by configuring a headphone case with an interactive user interface to enable the user to control operations associated with the wireless headphones.”
Now, of course, it’s not certain there will be a final product just because Apple has the patent, but it could be one of the future news. JBL already has a headset with a similar function, mainly intended for use on a computer where you can silence the microphone with a touch on the touch screen, for example during video meetings.
