Footballer’s Cheshire Mansion Reduced By Half A Million

Former England and Manchester City footballer Gareth Barry has reduced the asking price on his Cheshire mansion from £4.5m to £3.95m, it is reported.

The mansion in Sproston features 9,000 sq ft of space with seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms, an outdoor football pitch/tennis courts, leisure complex and stable block. There is also what the Manchester Evening News story says is a former aircraft hangar on 30 acres of land.

It is said Barry, now at West Bromwich Albion, bought the property for £3.2m in 2009 and extensively renovated it. The house has been for sale since 2016 but has not attracted a buyer.

Although Cheshire isn’t quite as desirable as the usual affluent footballer’s favoured place of residence Surrey, it is still one of the UK’s most expensive locations for high end homes. That no one is prepared to pay over £4m for what is an awful lot of house could be seen as something of a concern for those involved in this part of the market.
