On May 1, a plane crashed in the Amazon region of Colombia. All the adults on board, the pilot, man and woman, died. But when the wreckage of the plane was found, on May 16, the four children, all children of the deceased woman, were not there.
Since then, the search for the children, ages 13, 9 and 4, has been intense, and their traces – half-eaten fruit, footprints, baby bottles and diapers – keep hope alive. They also found what appeared to be a makeshift camp.
On Friday, the happy news came from Colombian President Gustavo Petro.
“Happiness to the whole country! The four children who disappeared in the Colombian jungle 40 days ago have been found alive.”
In one of the photos, rescue workers are also shown taking care of the four siblings after the successful outcome.
– They were all alone. They have become an example of a complete survival instinct. Gustavo Pietro told local media that this will go down in history Washington Post.
These children are the children of peace, the children of all of Colombia!
“Operation Miracle”
The children are indigenous people of the Huitoto tribe, a tribe that used to hunt and fish, something the military believed helped the children survive for so long. The children’s relatives said that they knew the forest well.
A rescue effort has already begun called “Operation Miracle” in Colombia, with hundreds of soldiers and indigenous people involved in the action that covered a vast expanse of rainforest.
The children are now receiving care and awaiting transfer to San José del Guaviare, the capital of the Guaviare region.
