Facebook Could Threaten UK Property Portals

Facebook’s new social ad. engine for property – which it announced recently – could threaten the dominance of the UK property portals, it is claimed.

The new development will enable properties for sale to be listed directly on Facebook and make it easy for buyers to search for them.

Speaking to Property Industry Eye Richard Fowler of Richard James estate agents in Wellingborough, who attended the Cartus conference at which it was announced, said: “This could be a game changer for the property portals – and that was certainly the view among the delegates.

“It could also potentially be the next stage of a private sales site.

“The main property portals in the UK should certainly see this as a threat.”

While Facebook have not released much information about how the new tool will work (or even if it will be available in the UK) this certainly seems something that will concern the property portals. Then again, there are others who will argue that Facebook itself is on something of a downswing and so will likely be replaced by something newer and better before it has a chance to make any real impression on the property market.
