Isabella Tree's hit book about a rewilding project at her and her husband's home in West Sussex will hit the big screen on June 14. Country Life has been given a sneak peek in the trailer below.
First an idea, then a book, and now a movie. Country Life is proud to share the first trailer for the upcoming film Wilding, based on Isabella Tree's hugely successful book of the same name, which documents her and husband Charlie Burrell's rewilding project on the Knepp Estate in West Sussex.
The documentary, directed by David Allen, tells the story of how Isabella and Charlie took the “dying landscape” on their 3,500-acre Kneipp estate and returned it to nature, tearing down fences, letting livestock roam free and removing fertilisers, chemicals and pesticides. Just about everything else than the landscape.
What happened next became one of the UK's great success stories, as the Kneipp estate went from an unprofitable farm to a place “vibrant with wildlife,” as a friend once told me. There are free pigs. There are beavers. There are storks. There are more mistakes than you can get rid of. Looks, tastes, smells and sounds like the wild. He's alive.
The Kneipp “experiment,” as it was formerly known, is now a pioneering example of how nature can be restored to its natural state even in the most desolate environments. The film will be released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on June 14, and you can take a look at the trailer below.
Thanks to the Sussex Wildlife Trust and Knepp Estate, beavers will once again be seen at Adur
