Elin and Vera ended up in the middle of a shooting at Field’s Mall

At 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, friends arrived at Copenhagen’s Fields shopping center for a pre-concert lunch at the nearby Royal Arena. They asked for food, and after ten minutes they heard the first shots.

– We saw some teenage girls running in the past but we didn’t think much about it. Then more came and we heard screams and started running, Vera Lunde says.

They ran with the crowd and into the escalator on their way down, so they think one of the offender’s shots hit the ledge.

“People shouted that we should get down so everyone could throw themselves, and Vera fell and jumped over the person who was falling in front of me,” says Ellen Martinson.

Friends lost each other

Elaine ended up out of the crowd and hid in the rehearsal room inside a store. Vera tracks down three girls who find an emergency exit.

Five minutes later I walked out and I was confused. I called Elaine and said she would just try to escape from there, Vera Lunde says.

“I just felt like I wanted to go out and I panicked to be left alone in the store, so when I saw four people running outside, I grabbed them,” says Elaine Martinson.
