Singer Ed Sheeran is creating his own personal country estate in Suffolk, snapping up a swathe of properties that will be connected by an underground tunnel.
The Castle on the Hill singer, who recently announced his engagement to long-term girlfriend Cherry Seaborn, has reportedly bought four properties next to each other, close to the Suffolk village of Framlingham where he grew up.
Residents of the town are said to be dubbing the area “Sheeran-ville”.
Land Registry records reveal Sheeran first bought his large modern detached farmhouse and surrounding land for £895,000 in June 2012. At the same time, he snapped up the 16th century Grade II listed house next door for £450,000.
The singer liked the area so much that he bought the four bedroom detached house in front of his farmhouse in September 2016. Then last October, he splashed out on his fourth purchase by buying the bungalow on the other side of his driveway for £525,000.
Proving himself to be quite the property mogul, Sheeran, who also has a home in London and a vineyard in Umbria, has already added a private pub (with urinals and a selection of beers on tap), swimming pool and four-room treehouse to his main property.
The pop star, 26, and his childhood sweetheart fiancée are believed to have secured planning permission to elevate their Suffolk estate to a whole new level.
Planning documents obtained by the Daily Mail reveal the couple intend to develop two underground entertainment rooms – a cinema and music room – which will be directly connected to the house via a six foot wide tunnel.
Another set of stairs will connect the area to the barn which houses Sheeran’s private pub, making it an ideal place for the singer to host his famous friends.
The proposed development is outlined as a “barn conversion, basement under existing barn and underground tunnel”.
Combined with his hot tub, billiards room and garage for four cars, Sheeran, who is reported to be worth £40 million, appears to be building the ideal party palace.
Sheeran first revealed he had his own pub at his home during an interview with Zane Lowe for Beats 1 /Apple Music Radio in January 2017.
When asked about his home, he said: “Yeah it’s getting there, I’ve built a pub. Like I had a bar before, a bar where you could pour beers but now this has like a selection of beers which is cool. So basically there’s an underground tunnel to get there that you can close off. So if I have a party everyone goes in the pub and no one can get in the house, so you get no one raiding the cupboards or smashing anything. You have to go underground to get to the pub.”
DealMakerz reckons Sheeran will have a huge line of friends and acquaintances queuing up for a lavish weekend away at his country estate.
It’s the stuff that other 26 year-olds – and, indeed, people of all ages – can only dream of.
