A supernova is the result of an explosion or explosion of a star. This phenomenon is described as one of the most violent things that occur in space.
Cassiopeia A, located 11,000 light-years from Earth, is the youngest supernova in our galaxy. It belongs to the constellation of the same name.
Using the infrared capabilities of the Webb telescope, researchers have captured new, detailed images of stellar remnants. When it was then “translated” into colors and shapes that the human eye could interpret, NASA knew they had made a completely new discovery.
“unexpected and difficult”
In the pictures, the different parts get different colors depending on how hot they are. Red and orange fields indicate warm dust. At the same time, the inner steel structure is light pink.
But the part of the image that’s been colored in bright green eludes the researchers.
– We named it the “Green Monster” in honor of Boston’s Fenway Park. “If you look closely, you’ll see they’re smeared with what look like little bubbles,” Danny Milisavljevic, a professor at Purdue University and principal investigator for Webb’s program, said in a statement.
– The form and complexity are unexpected and difficult to understand, he continues.
It can provide knowledge from the beginning
Researchers are still working on interpreting the image and what the different colors mean.
Similar investigations into supernovae are important for understanding how stars explode. The dust surrounding supernovae can also provide more insight into how stars form.
– If we understand the process of exploding stars, we can read the history of our beginnings, says Dani Milisavljevic.
