Now the presence of coronavirus is sharply increasing in wastewater. Meanwhile, there is huge pressure on vaccination clinics across the country.
Earlier this week, the coronavirus and influenza vaccination campaign began at the same time as the spread of the coronavirus has accelerated in recent weeks. However, the flu has not taken off yet.
Many people want to get vaccinated, and in many places bookable times have run out, while queues can drag on for hours.
-It’s very high pressure. We are working hard to get appointments and staff,” says Birgitta Sahlström, COO of Vaccination Värmland. To Svenska Dagbladet
In many places, there is a lot of pressure to have more times and more staff.
SVT Västerbotten News Reports of long queues in, for example, Skellefteå and Norsjö.
– People have been queuing for two hours, and not everyone will be able to attend. On the first day you have visiting times, there is usually high pressure, but we did not expect this much,” Anne-Britt Marklund, Head of Department at Vaccinationscentrum tells SVT.
“They really want their vaccine.”
In the three largest regions the pressure is also great, even if it is possible to find free time.
– Because the prevalence of infection is so high, I think people really want their vaccine, says Birgitta Sallström.
According to researchers at the Swedish Agricultural University, levels of the Covid-19 virus in wastewater are the highest they have been measured in almost a year in most parts of the country.
The levels are similar to those we saw in December last year, says Anna Szekely, lecturer and researcher at SLU. To Dagens Nyheter.
No rise in influenza virus
In week 51 of last year, for example, 37 new patients in intensive care were confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus, according to Public Health Authority statistics.
The numbers have doubled in several places in the country according to the latest measurements, and they are also increasing in major cities such as Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö.
There are exceptions too. In Västerås and Jönköping, for example, measurements have shown no increase in Covid infections, according to Dagens Nyheter.
Researchers are also measuring infection rates of influenza viruses, but there has been no increase yet, which suggests the season has not yet begun.
