British hi-fi brand Bowers & Wilkins today presented its new flagship headphones – the Px8. B&W says it’s based on the award-winning Px7 S2 headphones released earlier this year. Compared to these, the Px8 shouldn’t have unexpectedly upgraded the sound quality, design, and finish.
It all starts with specially designed and optimized angle elements with carbon diaphragms that should mean less distortion and higher sound quality. On the ear cups are physical buttons that facilitate access to various functions. The headphones get the same noise reduction as the Px7 S2, with six microphones working together. Two microphones measure the output signal from each element, two react to outside noise and two help with call quality.
The Px8 supports Qualcomm’s aptX adaptive wireless technology (AptX Adaptive and AptX HD). Can also be used with a USB-C cable and a 3.5mm mini-jack. The headphones last for 30 hours on a charge and 15 minutes on a charger is enough to provide up to 7 hours of listening.
At the same time, Bowers & Wilkins is also rolling out a major update to its app, which can now stream music from various services like Deezer, Qobuz and TIDAL directly to headphones for the first time. This should make it easier for those who have, say, a Zeppelin or a pair of Formation Duo speakers at home to easily change the sound source via their mobile phone. The same app is also coming to the Px7 S2.
The Px8 comes in two different finishes: black or brown leather with a die-cast aluminum arm body. The ear cups and cushions have memory foam and are covered in soft nappa leather. Px8 is now available at HiFi Klubben and costs 7,498 SEK.
