The home office is here to stay. Having been forced to go home with us in 2021, many have gained a taste for the advantage of not having to spend a lot of time each day traveling back and forth to the workplace. And now the home office has been given a smart name: co-working. So the mix where it doesn’t matter much anymore if the employees are in the same address – as long as they can collaborate and solve their tasks.
This puts new demands on equipment, and above all, webcams and headsets for Zoom meetings are becoming popular.
Games have also become hybrids
In the more comfortable part of the field, the gaming PC has always been ready for travel, but this year we’ve seen several hybrid headphones where you can play wirelessly with lossless, lag-free sound in your ears at home – and keep playing on your mobile with Bluetooth audio when you’re out.
At Ljud & Bild, we’ve tested and written about computers of all types and in all weight classes. Because the needs are as different as our wallets. What is best depends on one’s needs.
Some need a super powerful computer that can edit cinema-quality video and create drawings for printing or 3D models. For others, it’s about being able to reply to emails and write some documents easily and at as low a cost as possible. Still others put portability and weight above everything else, because a computer should be able to carry it in a bag every day. Then there are gamers who demand the latest graphics cards and the most powerful processors.
New requirements on the network
In 2022, we tested more network products than ever before. Especially mesh routers that make it possible to reach the whole house with a wireless network at high speeds. If you have a fast internet connection and many wireless devices, WiFi 6E is the best and most expensive solution.
Computer screens have also improved. For many years, Full HD screens with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels were the most common, but now it is more and more common to see screens with a higher resolution. We’ve also seen many computers with OLED screens and touch functionality. However, these are reserved items for the more expensive models.
Keep this in mind when buying a computer
laptop
When buying a laptop for work or study the most important thing is that it is light and compact (1-1.5 kg). Battery life is also important, so you don’t have to carry your charger with you. Computing power is rarely an issue as long as the computer has an Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen processor. Make sure the device has at least 512GB SSD and 8GB RAM. If you also like to play games, you need a powerful graphics card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 or higher.
Monitor
If you work on a laptop for many hours every day, an external monitor is one of the best things you can give yourself. A screen with a size of 27 inches or larger and with a resolution of QHD or more provides space to open several documents at the same time, along with, for example, an email program. And choose a monitor whose height and tilt can be adjusted, so you get a comfortable working position.
network
When buying a new computer, you must make sure that it supports the new WiFi6E standard. Or at least WiFi6. Then we guarantee that you will get the best possible benefit from your wireless network.
gaming screen
Gaming monitors, whether on a laptop or desktop computer, must have a refresh rate of at least 144Hz and a response time of 1ms. However, Full HD resolution is usually sufficient. A higher resolution only means that the graphics card has to work harder to count the extra pixels.
gaming headset
A gaming headset should be comfortable to wear first and foremost, as it needs to be used for many hours at a time. In addition, it must have a sound designed sufficiently to detect your enemies. 7.1 channel virtual surround sound enhances the feeling of being in the center of the action.
