Margot Robbie as Barbie, she greets us and everything is wonderful, the sky is blue and the world is pinker than you can imagine. Ken is in a little corner, but Barbie is the one around whom it all revolves. It’s Barbie, after all, or Barbie and Ken in Barbieland. But then one day…
Flat feet…flat feet. The other dolls in Barbieland scream in despair and vomit uncontrollably… How will it go? In Barbieland everyone wears high heels. Yes, Barbie is not a realistic drama, it is a twisted comedy that attacks everyone who wants to keep the girl on the rug. Barbie ends up in the real world and discovers that men are judgmental and sometimes openly sexist.
Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach directed the film, and of course there will be clever humor, indie slapstick comedy, and stylish packaging. But at Doll Company, of course, they’re wringing their hands when all the spotlight falls on Barbie, with Ken on her ass.
What do I think of the movie? Yes, Two Pink Hours can almost seem like a sugar shock, but it’s bold, weird, and entertaining.
