12-year-old Archie Battersby died after his life support devices were discontinued.
The boy had been in a coma for several months while the parents fought a battle against the health care system.
“He was a beautiful little boy and he fought to the end,” says Arhice’s mother Holly Dance.
Arhcie Battersbee was found unconscious at his home in April, after taking a challenge on social media.
He has since fallen into a coma in London.
Doctors said he had brain damage and may be brain dead. They considered the best thing for the boy to end the care – but the parents objected.
The mother earlier told Sky News that the boy’s heart was beating and he was hugging her hand. The parents tried to take the boy to a hospital abroad for treatment there instead.
Transferred to the European Court of Justice
The case received great attention in the British media. The dispute went to both the Supreme Court and the European Court, but both of the parents refused.
At 12.15 on Saturday, Acie’s life support treatment ended.
Outside the hospital, his mother told Holly Dance that she was “the proudest mother in the world” and that Archie struggled to the end, writes Sky News.
– We hope that the family will not go through what we did. It’s barbaric, says Ella Rose Carter, Archie’s older brother’s fiancĂ©e and who brought the family’s case up.
