In recent years, Apple has gone from strength to strength and has demonstrated the advantages of standing behind both hardware and software. With ARM-based system chips for Macs, tablets, and phones, leading-edge performance is achieved in many cases—both in terms of energy efficiency and sheer performance numbers. However, one area that the company has had problems with is its own solutions for wireless communications, which seems to be true of the future as well.
In the fall of 2021, it was reported that Apple was ready to replace Qualcomm’s 5G modem circuits with its own, but last fall it was reported that this complex development project did not seem to arrive until the 2025 iPhone. Now that means precision Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo This is followed by a Wifi 6E plan in earnest. Apple is described as halting development of Wifi 6E circuits instead to switch to alternatives from Broadcom, which will happen in iPhone 15 models in the fall.
► Introduction to Wifi 6E – Wireless with a new frequency range
Apple will use resources from the Mothballed Project to accelerate production of next-generation system circuitry made using 3nm technology. The manufacturing technology will be suitable for circuits released starting this year, as the iPhone 15 family will receive a candidate likely to be called A16 Bionic. What is certain is that Apple, as usual, plans to beat the big drum because it’s better than last year’s version.
Broadcom’s Wifi 6E circuit combines Bluetooth and Wifi into the same circuit, while the phone giant’s option only applies to the latter. When Apple’s Wifi 6E project comes to fruition, it couldn’t be easier to implement your own solution directly on, say, the iPhone 15. So Apple will likely rely on Broadcom’s integrated Wifi circuit for at least one phone generation.
