Early exit from the pits
The new development model could deliver a completely new timeline for Android and its updates.
Since 2013, Google has been in the habit of releasing the hottest version of its Android operating system in either August, September, or October. However, with the release of Android 16 next year, that may change.
It is publishing Robot body Which indicates that it has found traces of the next generation Android reference 25Q2. It's a reference model that Google used to use for its big releases like new generation and major feature updates. In plain text, the reference indicates that Android 16 may be launched in the second quarter of 2025, which in this case would be much earlier than usual.
Earlier this year, Google changed its development model to something called “trunk-based,” which is simply a method of version control where developers work on a single shared branch, often called the “trunk” or “mainline.” This way, you can avoid long-running development branches, which reduces the risk of software code conflicts and allows code changes to be integrated more often and more smoothly.
However, so far, these conclusions are based on various code references, and thus we may have to take them with a pinch of salt.
