Svenska Dagbladet interviewed a Russian military expert under the pseudonym “Serge”. The person lives in exile somewhere in Europe – and is anonymous for fear of imprisonment because of the information he provides about the Russian army. But Serge claims to have followed the Russian military for decades.
When he first heard that Russia was preparing a full-scale invasion, he dismissed it as nonsense.
– We knew the size of the forces on the border and that the Russian superiority was not very great. In this case, you should concentrate all your forces in one or two directions – just as the United States did in Iraq in 2003 – and no more, says Serge and continues:
The Russian plan was completely foolish. It was based on false intelligence reports that the soldiers would not meet resistance. He says that the Ukrainians will not fight He’s SvD.
See a new North Korea
He does not see a possible end to the conflict, as long as Putin is in power. Instead, the two sides will tire each other out and the conflict will stagnate. Not unlike the situation on the Korean Peninsula, where Russia increasingly likens North Korea to an isolated country.
According to Sergei, Russia will be able to mobilize again—in the same way the nation did during previous wars.
– Russia is fighting the same way it was fighting 150 years ago, having several million soldiers. They just have to obey orders to carry out the leader’s “genius” plan. Like pawns on a chessboard, he says.
