A woman in the US put everything into treating her daughter’s cancer – and then won 20 million kroner

Geraldine Gimblett, 74, has always used to buy lottery tickets at her convenience store in Lakeland, Florida — something that’s paid off now.

The lucky day began inside a gas station near her home, when she ordered one of the regular lottery tickets.

– At first the cashier thought there were no tickets left, but I asked him to check again because I like crossword games better. And he found the last one that was there, Geraldine Gimblett says according to a press release.

He spent all his money on treating his daughter’s cancer

But what puts a real golden edge over winning is the fact that Geraldine Gimblett has put all of her previous savings towards her daughter’s cancer treatment.

– The day before my mother bought this ticket, I rang the bell and left the hospital because I had just finished my last treatment for breast cancer, says the daughter according to the press release.

– My mother used all her savings to take care of me when I was sick. I am very happy for her.

The lottery prize is worth two million US dollars, which is equivalent to about SEK 20.5 million. Geraldine Gimblett chose to withdraw everything at once, reducing the profit by a few million – but still managed to bring home more than 16 million crowns.
