Sunday On July 16, Saab test pilot André Brännström was awarded the Paul Bowen Award for Best Individual Performance at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) in Great Britain. The winner was chosen during a parade where Air Force pilots and test pilots from around the world flew the most advanced combat aircraft available.
This weekend, the Gripen E fighter jet took part for the first time at RIAT, one of the world’s largest and most famous air shows, which took place in Gloucestershire, UK. Saab displayed two Gripen E’s there during both air shows and on the ground.
This is the second year in a row that a pilot flying a Gripen has been awarded the Paul Bowen Award, named after one of the founders of RIAT. 2022 happened Captain David Szentendrei Hungarian Air Force same award for display with Gripen C.
The Gripen E takes everything you love about fighter jets to a new level. This award confirms what a great fighter is and what the Gripen E is capable of. The whole Saab team and I are very proud and happy with the reception we have received from the public at RIAT and for receiving such a great award, says Saab test pilot André Brännström.
The Gripen E is the latest version of Saab’s combat aircraft and is being ordered by both Sweden and Brazil. The Gripen E has exceptional performance combined with advanced technical capabilities and the latest systems, sensors and weapons. The aircraft is designed to operate in harsh and challenging environments.
More than 200 aircraft participated in this year’s edition of RIAT. Among others, combat aircraft from a large number of countries took part, but also larger aircraft such as the American B-52 bomber and aircraft carriers.
