4,000 people and 2,500 vehicles were inspected, and 1.5 million SEK was assessed or seized. From December 5 to 9, the Swedish police, together with several other countries, carried out a large-scale operation against cross-border crimes.
The purpose of Operation EMPACT Trident was to detect, prevent and intervene against cross-border crime in Northern Europe. Sweden had a leading role and NOAA’s Mats Palmgren was the lead for international action during the operation.
– The biggest gain is that we and our neighboring countries are strengthening our cooperation at a much deeper level than usual, and the modus operandi has great potential. I hope this becomes a daily modus operandi between us. In addition, the information received in this regard is of great importance for the prevention and prevention of really serious crimes, says Mats Palmgren.
Great crime flow
For Sweden, the focus has been on intercepting arrivals with criminal intent, detecting crimes, blocking criminal plans, and rejecting people who do not have a right of residence at the border. The immigration crime flow is extensive and there are many people who seek both Sweden and other Nordic countries with the intention of committing crime.
– First, it is important to attack criminals’ money in this way. Secondly, the police send a signal that we are outside. Third, we attack the logistical chain for this type of crime, says Palmgren.
Very good results
The results of the effort were very good. About 4,000 people and 2,500 vehicles have been screened in Sweden. People were arrested, cars were confiscated, and goods worth about SEK 1.5 million were confiscated.
– It’s great fun and with such good results, you feel like we’re on the right track. With this way of working, we can make a difference. Palmgren says I admire the way everyone involved has handled the problem and am pleased with the way this effort has been carried out.
As a result of the Swedish-led effort, people were also denied their liberty in Denmark, Germany, Poland and Lithuania. Valuable information has been received that allows you to prevent and prevent serious crimes.
