Huge rescue operation for Hurtigrut ships

Huge rescue operation for Hurtigrut ships

On Tuesday evening, the engine of the passenger ship MS Kong Harald stopped outside Bode in the municipality of Hostadvika.

A major rescue operation has begun and four helicopters have been sent to the scene, Norwegian media reported.

The ship must have sent an emergency alert, reports NRK:

Mayday, mayday. We’re lacking in progress, Bridge reports.

However, the ambulance boat sent to rescue the ship must have ran aground.

Late in the evening, it was reported that King Harald had started the engine and restarted his own mechanism again.

It was 9 p.m. on Tuesday when the Norwegian boating drama began when the engine of the MS Kong Harald, a 590-passenger vessel operating in Hurtigruten, stopped outside Hudstavika, a municipality known for its tough waters.

It is not known how many passengers were on the ship, but four people were said to have been evacuated using the four helicopters that were sent to the scene.

In connection with the rescue operation, an ambulance boat ran aground, according to NRK and Norwegian reports Dagbladet.

At 21.45, Norwegian media reported that Kong Harald’s engines were running again.

Kong Harald is 121.8 meters long and 19.2 meters wide and was built in 1992, Dagbladet reports.
