Jens grew up in Kolding, Denmark. He trained as a doctor at Aarhus University. Sweden attracted specialized training and became a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology at Karlskrona Hospital. Research interest and interest in the then new ultrasound technology took him to Malmö and the USA before the possibility of being appointed to the position of Chief Medical Officer attracted him to Varnamo. His career then took him to Denmark again, where he was Director of Operations, first in Kalundborg, finally closing the circle to become Director of Operations in his hometown of Kolding, where he worked until his retirement. The moving team then returned to Sweden, which became their new home after many years of working there.

In addition to his long career, he also sat on the board of Self Central during the 1970s and 1980s, and with his colleagues was, among other things, behind the “1 extra krone per hour” campaign which was successful from a negotiating standpoint. After becoming a specialist, he was president of the Jönköping District Medical Society for 17 years.

Jens was an old-school doctor, physician, researcher and leader. He was primarily a patient-centered physician. His warm personality and great empathy made it easy for him to talk to everyone. Clinical work was a high priority for him, so during his time as COO he suggested that administrative meetings could be held on Saturday mornings when there were not too many patients booked. Naturally, hospital administrators disagreed.

Jens was very experienced as a doctor and knew most things, but he was passionate about obstetrics. He was in his element when it came to difficult pregnancies as he was usually the one she turned to.

During his time as director of the clinic, he was very popular, mainly because he was a role model: a very active doctor. He was outgoing, friendly and very popular with all groups of employees. He placed a lot of emphasis on his younger colleagues and their clinical training, and was going to let them get out and stand on their own feet with their seniors as support.

Many had the opportunity to speak with and thank Jens during his final days. Then many shared bright memories with him, which made him very happy.
