Sandra Bergqvist wants to see recommendations on young people's screen time – Hufvudstadsbladet

Sweden issued recommendations on youth media use earlier this year.

Now says SFP Vice President Sandra BergqvistShe, who is Minister of Sports and Youth in the Örbo government, expressed her desire to see a similar development in Finland.

Earlier last fall, she visited a family center in Stockholm.

“In their work, the impact of digital devices, for example, on children’s visual and linguistic development has been observed. Children need glasses at a younger age and speak very loudly. The increase in screen time has been highlighted as a key factor,” says Bergqvist in a press release.

She points out that there are positive and negative aspects of digital devices. For example, it can be useful in teaching, but at the same time young people's athletic performance is affected if too much time is spent in front of a screen.

“I intend to bring together important actors to discuss what we can do to promote young people’s well-being and support parents in today’s digital world,” says Bergqvist.

In Sweden, the new recommendations sparked many reactions.

There, the new recommendations were driven by the fact that more and more young people are feeling worse mentally and physically, and that spending too much time in front of screens can lead to “Clinical sleep deprivation”.

But others said the recommendations “impossible“To live up to the standards of parents of young children.
