The Core Ultra 9 285K can't handle the i9-14900K in games

Press materials from Intel's Core Ultra 200 presentation were leaked and the Core Ultra 9 285k was listed as being slightly inferior or on par with its predecessor. However, the upcoming processor is significantly less power consuming.

Intel's performance numbers for the Core Ultra 9 285K have now managed to leak among Chinese media outlets. In the leaked images, Intel admits that the Core i9-14900K processor is faster than the upcoming processor when it comes to games. However, the upcoming processor doesn't lose any horsepower and, ultimately, does something Intel hasn't done in years: reduces power consumption.

A system with a Core i9-14900K processor manages to average 264 frames per second (fps) in Intel's tests. The Core Ultra 9 285K system reaches 261 fps. However, this system has a lower power consumption of 80 watts.

Other performance comparisons with AMD's Ryzen 9 9950X and 7950X3D have also leaked. Compared to the 7950X3D, Intel's new processor should have the upper hand when it comes to productivity. However, it loses as much as 21 percent when it comes to gaming with the numbers Intel listed in the pictures.

Compared to the Ryzen 9 9950X, the upcoming Intel machine and the AMD processor should average at about the same level if you add up the numbers included in the presentation. However, no power consumption figures are included in comparisons with AMD processors.

It's also worth noting that the leaked images don't pit Intel's upcoming processor against AMD's fastest gaming processor, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. It remains to be seen how good the processors coming from the Blue Team are in facing the best from AMD. However, power consumption is likely to be the star of this show given that the Core Ultra 9 285K doesn't outperform the Core i9-14900K in gaming.
