In November 2021, 76-year-old American Alex Chronis was on a business trip in Erlanger, Kentucky. During the trip, Chronis stayed at the Econo Lodge, where he was supposed to take a shower.
But the water was very hot – 65.5 degrees.
Cronis collapsed in the shower and was pulled out by two coworkers who heard him screaming. He took over-the-counter medication to treat his injuries and went straight to a local food festival where he was selling food.
He didn't visit the emergency room for the first time until after his shift. Despite his doctor's advice to rest, Kronis continued working at the food festival. Law and Crime.
Treats burns
Two days later, Kronis was admitted to the hospital, where he remained for about five months. Among other things, he underwent surgery for burns, according to Law and Crime.
By April 2022, his condition had stabilized and he was transferred to a rehabilitation center in his hometown of Knoxville, but his condition worsened.
Two months later, in June 2022, he was admitted to the same hospital again. He died that same month.
The Crone family filed a lawsuit against the hotel owner, Sanjay Patel. According to the ruling, the hotel owner “failed to provide and secure regular room service to the hotel guests.”
This week the verdict was handed down and the family was awarded compensation: around 14 million Swedish kronor to cover medical care, more than 2 million kronor to cover pain, 170,000 kronor to cover funeral costs and more than 5 million kronor in compensation for other things.
