The discovered object J0529-4351 is a previously known quasar, a supermassive black hole. The strength of this quasar was confirmed by observations made at the Very Large Telescope Observatory in Chile, the BBC reports.

Researchers, reporting in Nature Astronomy JournalHe says the black hole has a voracious appetite, consuming the mass equivalent of one sun every day. The mass of the giant black hole is about 17 billion times the mass of our Sun.

It is possible that all galaxies form around massive black holes

The energy released makes the quasar's light more than 500 trillion times brighter than the Milky Way's Sun, the scientists involved say.

– In simple language, this means that without these black holes, our galaxy would not be what it is today. In fact, all galaxies would be very different without their supermassive black holes. In fact, it may be possible for all galaxies to form around it, Samuel Ley of the Australian National University tells BBC News.
