Microsoft has launched the Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock, shortly after grainy images of the dock were leaked via Ebay. Previous Surface Dock models were only for Microsoft’s Surface PCs, with a proprietary connector for connection between the dock and computer, but the new model has switched to a standard Thunderbolt 4 connector.

This means that Microsoft is now competing with manufacturers like Belkin, Caldigit, Dell, and Razer who all make Thunderbolt 4 docks that fit any laptop. Unlike some competitors’ models, Microsoft’s new platform also works over USB Type-C (USB 4) with computers that don’t have Thunderbolt.

The dock can charge a connected computer at up to 96 watts and has the following set of connectors: two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB Type C on the front, three USB Type A ports (one on the front), Ethernet (2.5Gb), and audio out. It has a built-in 80cm Thunderbolt 4 cable that connects to your computer. The dock also has a slot for a Kensington compatible lock and a desktop stand.
