reconsidering: It’s irresistible. Not least is Anne Petrin as Pippi, when she sits at Solvalla’s, exhausted with a beer in front of her and contemplating the fact that she’s broke, while Tommy and Annika seem to be living like royalty.
Carlson is on the roof, feeling disappointed and humiliated wherever he is, walking around his car repair shop and the only thing that reminds us of the old days is a little button on his back, because he shouldn’t be holding any propellers. Played by the absolutely fantastic Rene Brynjolfsson. No one can absorb the pauses, stare wistfully into the distance and fill the film frame with pain and frustration like he, well, maybe it’s Peter Anderson who plays Alphonse, now a frustrated and rich businessman who’s still floundering. Worried about his childhood, with that hard-to-reach memories of his father always behind his newspaper.
Watch a fantasy review of the three wonderful stories about Pippi, Alfons and Karlsson. The frame story that Jimmy Olsen has made for the three standalone shorts can be skipped, despite the fact that it’s also amazingly well acted in parts, but is almost astoundingly uninteresting. No, this isn’t a feature film, it’s three short films stuck together that are individually the best.
