Philips has given this model the cute nickname “The One”, as it is said to have most of the functions a modern TV needs. The model range is available in sizes from 50 to 65 inches, all equipped with Android TV and Ambilight.

NB! The Philips model is available in different model numbers, including the PUS8807 and PUS 8897 which have very similar specs but with a light or dark frame.

Philips has stuck to the Android user interface for years. This year’s model uses the 11, but Philips hasn’t made the jump to the new Google TV platform yet. So the menu system looks a little more traditional than Sony and TCL, but it still works well and provides access to a wide range of apps and streaming services.

Connectivity options are good, with four HDMI inputs, two of which support 120Hz. There is also support for gaming features like VRR and Freesync Premium. We measured input law down to about 17 milliseconds, which is acceptable as long as you’re not a professional esports player.

picture and sound

Philips has always had their own way of reproducing images, they like to add contrast, colors and a little bit stronger than most. Sometimes there can be too much of a good thing, but in the case of the 55PUS8897, we have to say it works great.

The One has a very good image for its category. We’re particularly impressed with the sharpness that brings out small details without overdoing it. Close-ups in series like Dragon House And the rings of strength Looks eerily real and present! In addition, the movements are smooth and flicker-free.

The Philips monitor also achieves consistently good results in both contrast, brightness and color reproduction, and is very close to TCL’s favorite in several areas. The biggest difference is that the competing device (QLED860) has a deeper black. On the other hand, Philips’ viewing angle is more equal than many competitors. From this point of view, TV is excellent for both movies, sports and games.

The One also has an extra feature specific to Philips TVs. We’re of course talking about Ambilight’s ambient light. The screen has three groups of LED lights at the back that illuminate the back wall with colors that match the movement on the screen.

Once you open your eyes to Ambilight, it can be hard to live without it. Light gives the visual experience an extra flair while also being pleasing to the eyes. You can adjust the brightness and dynamics of the light. And if you don’t like it, you can of course turn it off completely.

However, the sound isn’t that impressive. Philips offers a number of different picture modes, including an AI mode that adapts automatically, but feels confined and relatively thin. A loudspeaker is probably the go-to medicine if you want sound that matches live picture quality. Here, Philips offers a range of products from its own stable, which can be connected wirelessly to the TV via DTS Play-fi. Worth checking out!

All in all, Philips The One is a TV that we can safely recommend. It performs well in terms of ease of use, image quality, and versatility. Add a speaker and you have a heavy setup!
