Developers Seven Capital are awaiting approval for a 28 storey landmark tower development at Digbeth on the edge of Birmingham city centre.
The £220m Connaught Square scheme is planned to incorporate over 770 apartments plus around 38,000 sq ft of retail and commercial space. It will also incorporate a major public square which will be able to host events and feature opening up of a waterfront to the River Rea.
Development of the area has been proposed since before the financial crisis. Councillors have deferred making a decision on the latest version of the scheme pending further information from the developers.
The project is one of a number of major development and regeneration schemes ongoing or planned for Birmingham city centre at the moment. The latest scheme, if approved, will contribute to the total transformation of this part of inner city Birmingham which is also due to benefit from the arrival of HS2 around 2026.
