Microsoft has told us it now plans to phase out its Xbox Ambassador program after 13 years. The program gave players the chance to earn points in games that could then be redeemed for discount codes and other rewards in the online store. Here’s what Microsoft has to say about the closure and its ambassadors.
“Gamers find even more value in engaging with us in other ways that allow them to live out our community values of making Xbox a place where everyone can have fun — including programs like Fanfest, the Xbox Insider Program, and Rewards with Xbox,” the statement said today. “Thanks to the work of this group, the opportunity for gamers to experience the joy of gaming is more universal and inclusive than ever before — and we believe now is the right time to bring the lessons learned and values of our ambassador community to everyone from our player engagement programs.”
The program will be discontinued in mid-October and all ambassadors will receive reminders until then to use their codes and points. Ambassadors will also receive a new updated badge with an “old design” and everyone who was with them until the end will receive a special thank you written in detail on the rewards page.
The Ambassador Program ends on October 15.
